Iran’s State TV Gets New Chief

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei on Wednesday appointed Peiman Jebeli as the new president of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB).

In the decree, Ayatollah Khamenei praised the outgoing IRIB chief, Abdol Ali Aliasgari, for his tireless efforts after taking the post in May 2016.

The Leader said he has decided to appoint Jebeli to the post for a five-year term considering his religious and revolutionary competence, expertise, long experience of service in the IRIB managerial posts, and his knowledge of the nature, functions and duties of the state TV.

Ayatollah Khamenei likened the IRIB to a university for the elevation of public knowledge, a battleground for countering hostile attempts at distortion and deception, a peaceful place for enjoying the beauties of art, and a base for promoting hope and exhilaration in the society.

The top priorities that the IRIB should pursue by boosting the human resources and improving the quality of programs include cultural guidance, strengthening the national and revolutionary morale, promoting the Islamic-Iranian lifestyle, and increasing national solidarity, the Leader stated.

The Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting is estimated to have around 50,000 employees.

Half of the IRIB’s annual budget is supplied by the administration and the other half is earned through advertisements and sponsors.
