The Human Rights and Democracy Organization issued a statement calling for punishment and prosecuting the Bahraini government and preventing the torture of prisoners and paying compensation to torture victims.
Salam for Democracy and Human Rights Organization issued a statement calling for punishment and prosecuting the Bahraini government and preventing the torture of prisoners and paying compensation to torture victims, and urged the world to press the Bahraini government to stay on its international commitments.

The Organization further referred to Article No. 5 of the UN Human Rights Council’s official statement and said “Torture, ill-treatment and inhuman punishment, as well as prisoners’ desecration are not permitted under this article and we have chosen this article this year to commemorate World Human Rights Day to remind the world that the Bahraini government continues to torture inmates seventy years after issuance of this historic document”.
It is worth noting that there are now more than 4,000 political prisoners in Bahraini prisons, most of them are young people, including human rights activists and media community, photographers, athletes, students and collegian who are illegally detained and tortured. They have been given a cruel sentence of long term prison and some of their Bahraini birth certificates have been revoked, and these are all only because of their political opposition to the regime and their opposition to the policy of discrimination and oppression.
The statement reads “The Bahraini regime continues to oppose the entry of the UN Special Rapporteur and Inspector into Bahrain, fearing the facts about the torture of prisoners will be revealed to the world and everyone will be aware of the bad conditions in Bahrain prisons”.
