Iran Raps Biden for Human Rights Gesture

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kana’ani slammed US President Joe Biden for his meddling remarks over the recent unrest in Iran, and advised the POTUS to ponder about human rights record of his own country.

“For years people of the world have been and are witnessing the true and unmasked face of American human rights in Palestine, Afghanistan, Iraq, Yemen, Libya, Syria and … and even on the US soil,” Kana’ani wrote on his Instagram page.

“It would have been better if Mr. Joe Biden, before making humanitarian gestures, would have thought about the human rights record of his own country, though hypocrisy needs no thinking,” the diplomat said.

“It would have been better for the US president to be concerned about the numerous– and as acknowledged by the US government, unprecedented and paralyzing – sanctions against the Iranian nation, as their implementation against any nation is a clear example of crimes against humanity,” the spokesperson added.

Biden stated on Monday that the United States will impose further costs on “Iranian officials responsible for violence against demonstrators who protested against Iran’s government after the death of Mahsa Amini”.

Mahsa was taken to a police station in Tehran in mid-September. She fell into coma there and died three days later after she was transferred to a hospital in the Iranian capital. A special committee has been established to investigate different aspects of her tragic death.

Protests over the death of Mahsa erupted first in her native province of Kordestan and later spread to other parts of the country. The demonstrations soon turned violent.

Iranian officials blame Western countries for orchestrating the riots to destabilize the country.

Speaking in an address to military cadets in Tehran on Monday, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei severely censured the deadly riots, saying they were orchestrated in advance by the United States and the Israeli regime.

“I state it clearly that these developments were planned by America, the Zionist regime and their acolytes. Their main problem is with a strong and independent Iran and the country’s progress. The Iranian nation proved to be fairly strong during recent events and will bravely come onto the scene wherever necessary in the future,” he added.

In recent days, Iranian officials have blamed the United States, the European Unions (EU), and several Western states for meddling in Iran’s internal affairs over the death of Mahsa. They advised the US and its allies against “opportunism and instrumentalization of the issue of human rights” by misusing the incident.

Tehran reminded that the countries, which, themselves, towed a “long history of warmongering and violence” throughout the world, lacked the legitimacy that could authorize them to “moralize others” concerning the human rights.
