Official: Iran’s Home-Made Medicine Saves $400mn

TEHRAN (Dispatches) – Director-General of Drugs and Materials under the Iran Food and Drug Administration (IFDA) Gholam Hossein Mehr Alian announced on Saturday that production of drugs and medical equipment inside the country has saved nearly $400mn in a year.
“Our foreign currency consumption decreased 20% last year by focusing on domestic capabilities and we saved $400mln last year compared with the previous year,” Mehr Alian said.
He underlined Iran’s reliance on indigenous power in the current year, and said efforts are focused on production of medicine inside the country as far as domestic capacities allow.
And also, a senior official at Iran’s Ministry for Science, Research and Technology said that the country’s knowledge-based companies enjoy the capability to produce 1mn masks every day as part of the nationwide campaign against the coronavirus outbreak.
“The knowledge-based companies are active in different fields, including capability of daily production of 1mln masks, 1.5mln liters of disinfectants, ventilators, oxygen reservoirs, non-contact thermometer, protective gowns and diagnostic kits,” Mehdi Keshmiri said.
He added that the knowledge-based and technological firms in Iran have also produced different types of machines to disinfect the environment and increased production of ventilators 6-fold.
