The Iranian Intelligence Ministry announced on Thursday that the country’s security forces have captured 10 members of the Daesh (also known as ISIL or ISIS) terror group before they could carry out terror attacks on mourners who are commemorating the martyrdom anniversary of Shiite Islam’s third Imam across the country.
“Takfiri-Zionist terrorists of Daesh had been arrested in the course of the past three days before they could launch their attacks,” the statement read.
The intelligence ministry said the Israeli regime, “having suffered a great setback last week by failing to blow up a sensitive site” in Iran, attempted to use “Takfiri-Daesh teams” to carry out terrorist operations targeting mourning ceremonies for Imam Hossein (AS).
The ministry warned the Tel Aviv regime, “the Takfiri-Daesh proxies, and terrorist separatists” that their abortive attempt would face a “crushing response” from the Iranian intelligence forces.
“The terrorists had been under watch by Iranian intelligence forces from the points of entry into Iran, namely Iraq and Turkey, and were detained in two Western and Southern regions of the country,” the statement added.
“The Iranian forces have discovered and confiscated all their explosive equipment, communication devices and weapons,” the statement said, and added two Iranian forces were injured as the terrorists opened fire on them during the arrest operation.
Iran has in recent month identified and arrested several members of spy networks affiliated to foreign secret services.
Last Saturday, the Iranian Intelligence Ministry announced that members of a terrorist group affiliated with Mossad were identified and arrested by the country’s security forces before they could take any action to carry out acts of sabotage. Tehran declared that the detained mercenaries intended to blow up a sensitive military site inside Iran by highly powerful bombs.
Days later, Iran’s security agents have managed to identify and arrest members of a spy group affiliated with the Tel Aviv regime before they could take any action against the country.
Back in June, a plot by Mossad to assassinate Iranian nuclear scientists was defused after security forces arrested three agents of the spy agency.
Also in April, the Iranian Intelligence Ministry announced it has detained three agents cooperating with Mossad in Sistan and Balouchestan province.
