President of Iran to Visit Kazakhstan for CICA Summit

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi will attend the 6th summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Kazakhstan on October 13.

The Iranian president will travel to Astana on Thursday morning to attend the 6th CICA summit at the invitation of his Kazakh counterpart Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

President Raisi is going to deliver a speech to the conference during his one-day trip to Astana and hold meetings with a number of heads of states on the sidelines of the event.

According to the Foreign Ministry of Kazakhstan, the 6th CICA summit will be attended by the presidents of 11 states, including Iran, the Republic of Azerbaijan, Iraq, Qatar, Kyrgyzstan, Palestine, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkey, and Uzbekistan.

Nearly 50 delegations from the member states, observer states, observer organizations, partner organizations, and guests of the chairmanship are expected to attend the summit.

Kazakhstan proposed the idea of formation of CICA in 1992 at the 47th United Nations General Assembly meeting.

As CICA has evolved into a multilateral platform for strengthening security and prosperity in Asia, the number of its member states has risen to 27, encompassing 90 percent of the continent.
