Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kana’ani stressed the US complicity in the Israeli crimes in the Gaza Strip, and once again warned that the violence could spread to other parts of West Asia in case of continuation of the conflict in the besieged enclave.
Speaking at a weekly press conference on Monday, Kana’ani cautioned of dire consequences if the Israeli bombardment of the Palestinian territory is not stopped.
“If the crimes of the Zionist regime are not prevented, the scope of the war will expand. If we are witnessing the spread of the conflict in the region, it is the outcome of the US’s negligence toward this concern,” he stated.
Contrary to their stances, the US and the Western allies of the Zionist regime have not taken any practical measure to end the war, the spokesperson continued.
Israel has been carrying out heavy bombardment across the Gaza Strip since early October, killing more than 23,000 Palestinians, including thousands of children and women, and wounding over 58,000 others, and levelling entire neighbourhoods. Thousands more are missing and feared buried under the rubble.
Iranian officials say the United States is waging a war on Palestinians in the Gaza Strip through Israel, and cautions that the current status in West Asia resembled a powder keg which could spiral out of control. They note If Washington’s political and military aid to Zionists is cut off, the regime won’t be able to proceed its military campaign against the blockaded territory.
“If the US government, the Western states and the Israeli allies are truly and sincerely after a solution to the problem in Gaza, the cessation of Israeli war crimes and preventing the spread of the conflict in the region, they must prove their demand in practice,” Kana’ani said.
If Washington and certain European states seek to settle the crisis genuinely, “they must address the root causes of the crisis and stop their support” for Israel, he added.
“But the world nations observe such a paradox in the words and deeds of certain Western countries. On the one hand, they talk about insecurity in the region, but on the other hand they still pursue regional insecurity,” the diplomat stressed.
