Iran becomes Vice President of APDIM BoG

With the approval of the Board of Governors of the Asian and Pacific Center for the Development of Disaster Information Management (APDIM), the Islamic Republic of Iran became the vice president of the next meeting in 2024.

The 8th meeting of the Board of Governors of the APDIM was held in the Tajik capital of Dushanbe on Friday, December 8.

A delegation from Iran, headed by Vice President and Head of the Plan and Budget Organization (PBO) Davood Manzoor, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.

“Today, we have convened here to talk about the natural disasters while the oppressed Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip are facing a deadly human disaster due to the brutal attacks by the Zionist regime. We strongly condemn these brutal attacks waged by Israeli forces against Palestinians,” he said in his address.

Natural disasters do not know any borders and it is necessary to take the coordinated and integrated regional measures to tackle them and take advantage of the capacity of different countries in the region, he added.

Among these disasters, the issue of sand and dust storms should be taken into serious consideration, and tackling it requires the implementation of a regional action plan, Iran’s vice president emphasized.

The Asian and Pacific Center for the Development of Disaster Information Management (APDIM) is affiliated to the  UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) which is headquartered in Tehran.

APDIM Board of Governors has nine members which is held annually and investigates and approves the report of the measures taken for the current and upcoming years.
