FM Spokesman: Assassinating Iran’s Military Advisor Not to Help Israeli Regime Survive

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kana’ani underlined that Israel’s assassination of a senior military advisor of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) in Syria will in no way help the Israeli regime continue to survive.

Kana’ani made the remarks addressing reporters at his weekly press conference in Tehran on Monday.

Kana’ani condemned Tel Aviv’s assassination of Brigadier General Seyed Razi Mousavi, who was serving as a military advisor in Syria, emphasizing that such acts will not benefit the Israeli regime in any way.

General Mousavi was martyred in an Israeli airstrike in a Damascus neighborhood on December 27.

The Iranian foreign ministry spokesman pointed out that General Mousavi was on an advisory mission in Syria at the invitation of the Arab country, holding the Israeli regime’s officials accountable for the consequences of his assassination.

Iran reserves the legal right to respond to Israel’s move “at any time and place”, he asserted.

“According to the UN Charter, Iran has the right to respond to this criminal act and has asked the Security Council to fulfill its responsibility vis-à-vis the maintenance of international peace and prevention of putting regional peace in jeopardy,” he added.

Kana’ani further noted that any attack on Iranian advisors who are in Syria legally is a clear evil act and a blatant violation of the Arab country’s territorial integrity.

“Such acts would only help terrorists and pose a challenge to regional peace,” he warned.

The top Iranian general, Seyed Razi Mousavi was martyred last Monday in an Israeli raid in Damascus suburb in Syria, according to a statement from IRGC public relations. He was one of the IRGC’s veteran advisers in Syria and a close associate of Tehran’s anti-terror icon Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, who was assassinated in a US drone strike in Iraq in January 2020.

Iran maintains an advisory mission in the war-ravaged country at the request of Damascus, helping it in the face of foreign-backed terrorism. Several members of the IRGC have so far been martyred in the battle against terrorists in Syria. Israel has been a key supporter of the terrorist groups during the war and has frequently targeted military positions inside Syria.

Iranian officials have in recent days stressed Tehran’s firm determination to take revenge for the assassination of the senior military advisor, warning that Tehran won’t let this crime remain unanswered.

Elsewhere in his presser, the spokesman reaffirmed Iran’s resolve to pursue the US assassination of General Soleimani both inside the country and at international courts, stressing that “remarkable” measures have been carried out so far.

“In any fair criminal court, General Soleimani’s assassination is definitely regarded as an international crime and its perpetrator must be brought to justice,” he added.

Lieutenant General Soleimani, his Iraqi trenchmate Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, the second-in-command of Iraq’s PMU, and ten of their deputies were martyred by an armed drone strike that was directly ordered by the White House as their convoy left Baghdad International Airport on January 3, 2020.

Both commanders were highly revered across the Middle East because of their key role in fighting the Daesh (also known as ISIL or ISIS) Takfiri terrorist group in the region, particularly in Iraq and Syria.

Iranian officials have repeatedly emphasized that Tehran will certainly take revenge from the masterminds and perpetrators of the terror attack on the anti-terror icon. Tehran stresses Americans and Zionists rest assured that it is serious about revenge for the assassination of Martyr Soleimani, and they continue to live under the shadow of Iran’s reprisal since they don’t know when and where they come under attack.

On January 8, 2020,  the IRGC targeted the US-run Ein Al-Assad in Iraq’s Western province of Al-Anbar by launching a volley of missiles in retaliation. According to the Pentagon, at least 110 American forces suffered “traumatic brain injuries” during the counterstrike on the base. Iran has described the missile attack as a “first slap”.

Iran has asked Interpol to issue a red notice for all perpetrators and masterminds of the assassination of Lieut. Gen. Soleimani. Tehran has also identified dozens of people in connection with the targeted terror attack and that includes Trump, Pentagon officials and American forces in the region. The Iranian Foreign Ministry has also declared sanctions against several persons – including Trump, Pompeo and former National Security Advisor John Bolton – who have ordered, perpetrated or cooperated in the assassination of Lieutenant General Soleimani.

Back in May 2022, Tehran’s Prosecutor General Ali Salehi issued arrest warrants for dozens of former and present US officials, including Trump, Pompeo and former Head of the CENTCOM General Kenneth Franklin McKenzie for their involvement in the assassination of the anti-terror hero.
