Dutch consumer prices jumped by 12.8% in May compared with a year ago, as food inflation continues to grow and the cost of visiting restaurants and cafes increased, official data showed.
Food prices soared 12.8% through the year to May. The Bureau for National Statistics noted particular increases for food, beverages and tobacco, albeit less dramatically than in April, The Northern Times reported
The surprise uptick in inflation in April followed months of deceleration since the pace of price rises reached its peak of 14.5% last September.
The latest figures could make it more likely that the European Central Bank hikes interest rates again when it meets in mid-June.
The inflation rate has remained stubbornly high in the eurozone, hovering around 7%.
