Ukraine’s defense minister says the country has no need for the occupying regime of Israel’s much-hyped Iron Dome missile system, describing it as an inadequate choice against Russian firepower.
“We all know the name Iron Dome, but even it does not give 100% protection,” Oleksii Reznikov said.
“In fact, I’ve been to Israel and talked to their manufacturers and state enterprises. Iron Dome was built against slow, low-altitude, low-impact missiles that were basically made in garages. Iron Dome does not protect against cruise and ballistic missiles,” the defense chief added.
Last month, Ukraine’s ambassador to the Zionist regime, Yevgen Korniychuk, stated that Kyiv wanted to purchase Iron Dome to defend against Russian missiles.
Ukraine first sought to purchase Iron Dome following the breakout of the conflict, but the request was not entertained. The Zionist regime reportedly blocked a U.S. proposal to deliver Iron Dome missile batteries to Ukraine because it may allegedly hurt its relations with Russia.
Since the war started, Russia has deployed its most sophisticated missiles against Ukraine. It has widely employed its Kalibr cruise missiles to hit targets in Ukraine from its warships and submarines in the Black Sea, besides the Bastion-P anti-ship missile that it has used to target Ukrainian ground assets.
The ground-launched Iskander short-range ballistic missile is another weapon of choice that has been overwhelmingly used by the Russian troops, especially in the east of Ukraine. Russia sent Iskander missiles to neighboring Belarus as well.
Moscow also used its Kinzhal hypersonic missile against Ukraine on more than one occasion and became the first country to fire a hypersonic weapon in combat.
Reznikov’s remarks concerning the Iron Dome came more than a year after the occupying regime pitted the missile system against Palestinian rockets during its last wholesale war against the Gaza Strip, only to find the multi-million-dollar high-tech missile system to be poorly effective in the face of thousands of retaliatory rockets fired from the direction of the coastal sliver.
