Iran’s Human Right Chief in Iraq to Pursue Gen. Soleimani Assassination Case

Deputy Judiciary Chief and head of Iran’s Human Rights Headquarters Kazzem Qaribabadi landed in Iraq’s capital on Monday in order to follow up on the 2020 US terror attack on Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani and his companions, and said that Tehran will push Baghdad for the trial of perpetrators of the heinous crime.

“Iran’s priority is to speed up the handling of the case of martyr Qasem Soleimani and his Iraqi trenchmate Abul Mahdi Al-Muhandis and their companions,” Qaribabadi told the reporters upon arrival in Baghdad.

He stated that during his trip to Baghdad, the case of Martyr Soleimani “will be seriously pursued” and “the indictment will be issued in Iran soon”.

“It is expected that Iraq will submit the indictment to the court as soon as possible so that all the perpetrators of the assassination of Martyr Soleimani and his companions will be tried,” the judiciary official added.

“Fighting against terrorist groups is another priority of Iran, which will be discussed with Iraqi officials, and the two countries have suffered a lot from terrorism,” he continued.

Qaribabadi said that it is necessary for Iran and Iraq to have good and close cooperation both at the level of national courts and at the level of international and human rights forums to deal with terror groups.

Back in late December, Abbas Ali Kadkhodaei, who heads a special committee formed to follow up on Lieut. Gen. Soleimani’s murder case from legal and international aspects, said Tehran is seriously pursuing a judicial process to serve justice in the case of the assassination of Iran’s anti-terror commander, adding that the indictment in the case is nearing its final stages.

Lieutenant General Soleimani, Al-Muhandis, the second-in-command of Iraq’s PMU, and ten of their deputies were martyred by an armed drone strike that was directly ordered by the White House as their convoy left Baghdad International Airport on January 3, 2020.

Both commanders were highly revered across the Middle East because of their key role in fighting the Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) Takfiri terrorist group in the region, particularly in Iraq and Syria.

Iranian officials have repeatedly emphasized that Tehran will certainly take revenge from the masterminds and perpetrators of the terror attack on the anti-terror icon. Tehran stresses Americans and Zionists rest assured that it is serious about revenge for the assassination of Martyr Soleimani, and they continue to live under the shadow of Iran’s reprisal since they don’t know when and where they come under attack.

On January 8, the the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targeted the US-run Ein Al-Assad in Iraq’s Western province of Al-Anbar by launching a volley of missiles in retaliation. According to the Pentagon, at least 110 American forces suffered “traumatic brain injuries” during the counterstrike on the base. Iran has described the missile attack as a “first slap”.

Iran has asked Interpol to issue a red notice for all perpetrators and masterminds of the assassination of Lieut. Gen. Soleimani. Tehran has also identified dozens of people in connection with the targeted terror attack and that includes former US President Donald Trump, Pentagon officials and American forces in the region. The Iranian Foreign Ministry has also declared sanctions against several persons – including Trump, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and former National Security Advisor John Bolton – who have ordered, perpetrated or cooperated in the assassination of Lieutenant General Soleimani.
