Iranian Marja’ condemns slaughter of people in Indian-controlled Kashmir

Grand Ayatollah Hossein Nouri Hamedani has issued a statement, expressing concerns about the current situation in Kashmir.  The Shia Marja’ called for a halt to the killing of the innocent people and an end to the siege of the Himalayan valley and reiterated the Islamic duty of defending innocent people all over the world.

In his message that was released Thursday August 15, Ayatollah Hamedani said unfortunate news coming from Kashmir, the media blackout and the ban on any form of religious gathering including Friday prayers is concerning. This, while the international community who always claims human rights has remained silent in the face of the current state of affairs in Kashmir, where local people face insecurity and cannot even get food or basic necessities.

According to Ayatollah Hamedani it is difficult for any human being to see reports and images from Kashmir which all portray an inhumane condition there.

The Grand Ayatollah has called on all freedom-seeking people specially member states of the Islamic Ummah, Ulema and human rights organizations to take serious stance regarding the events in Kashmir, as their silence would turn the situation more dangerous and hurtful than now. He added that all freedom-seekers of the world of any color, race, nationality and religion as well as Muslim countries should raise their voices about this great insult and inhumane aggression against Kashmiris.

The Iranian Grand Ayatollah advised Indian authorities that their actions in Kashmir would lead to nowhere but a state of instability and a big rift between various religions in the sub-continent. Ayatollah Hossein Nouri Hamedani urged New Delhi to give all the Indian people either Shia or Sunni Muslims or Hindus the chance to live with each other peacefully and in coexistence, as it was in the past.
