Iran Showcases Domestically-Developed VTOL Drone, Unmanned Vehicle

Iran’s Navy unveiled an indigenous vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) drone and a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) which capable of undertaking a variety of marine operations autonomously.

The military achievements were put on display during an exhibition attended by Iran’s Army Commander Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi and a number of high-ranking military figures and state officials in Tehran on Saturday.

The VTOL drone, dubbed Chamrosh-4, enjoys cost-efficient technologies and can easily take off from and land vertically on the decks of all types of naval vessels, and carry out assigned missions.

Tehran has in recent years gained significant progress in developing surveillance and combat drones. Iranian military officials announce that the country stands among the world’s top states manufacturing UAVs. Military officials say Tehran is self-sufficient in building drones from their fuselage to various subsystems and engines, adding the country’s Armed Forces are equipped and ready to carry out any type of drone operations and missions.

Moreover, the remotely operated vehicle can detect, locate and destroy both anchored sleeping naval mines. The ROV reportedly has the ability to carry payloads to mines and clear them.

During the exhibition, various seaborne weapons, anti-ship missile systems, sophisticated surveillance, telecommunications and electronic warfare systems, as well as domestically produced advanced parts were also showcased.

Iranian military officials praise the country’s defense industry sector for its great progress in the past decades, stressing that Tehran has manufactured such advanced defense equipment that the world military powers are vying to gain access to them.

Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei has recently hailed achievements made by Iran’s Navy after the 1979 Islamic Revolution as “remarkable and unbelievable”.

“In the first years after the Revolution, the presence of the Islamic Republic of Iran Navy beyond territorial waters was unimaginable, but now the Navy makes a 360-degrees voyage around the globe powerfully and strongly and returns to the country with pride,” he stated in a meeting with a group of Navy commanders and officials on the occasion of the Iranian Navy Day on Tuesday.

The Islamic Republic’s military doctrine holds that the country’s armed capability solely serves defensive purposes.

Iranian military experts and technicians have in recent years made substantial headway in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, making the armed forces self-sufficient in the weaponry sphere.

Iranian officials have repeatedly stressed that the country will not hesitate to boost its military capabilities, including its missile and drone power, which are entirely meant for defense, and that Iran’s defense capabilities will never be subject to negotiation
