Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, who is in New York to participate in the UN Security Council meeting on the Middle East, has met with his Russian and Lebanese counterparts.
Amir-Abdollahian has met with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in New York where they have arrived to attend a Security Council meeting on the situation in the Middle East.
The two top diplomats of Iran and Russia discussed a range of issues of mutual interest including the bilateral relations between the two countries, as well as some international developments, including the Israeli brutal war on the Gaza Strip.
Referring to the 100 days of the Palestinians’ resistance and the failure of the Israeli regime to achieve its goals, he said that the recent aggressions of the Zionist regime in Syria and Lebanon were aimed at shifting the attention of the global community from this disgraceful failure.
He also called on Moscow to play a more active role in order to stop the war against Gaza.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Amir-Abdollahian referred to the favorable relations between Iran and Russia, expressing hope that during the upcoming visit of the Russian President to Tehran, a comprehensive strategic cooperation document will be signed between the two countries.
Sergey Lavrov, for his part, expressed satisfaction with the latest state of bilateral relations, emphasizing the need to implement the agreements reached between Tehran and Moscow.
He also called for a united position of the Arab countries regarding the Palestinian issue.
The Iranian foreign minister also met and held talks with his Lebanese counterpart Abdallah Bou Habib on the sidelines of the UNSC meeting in New York.
During the meeting, Amir-Abdollahian called for establishing a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and facilitating the dispatch of humanitarian aid to the besieged enclave, saying that the crimes of the Zionist regime are a clear example of war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide.
Referring to the vital role of Lebanon in regional issues, he added that the stability and security of Lebanon affect the stability and security of the entire region, and the Islamic Republic of Iran has always supported and continues to support the stability and security in Lebanon.
Bou Habib, for his part, referred to the recent terrorist attack in Iran’s Kerman and extended condolences over the tragic incident.
He also demanded an immediate stop to the crimes of this regime against the innocent and oppressed people of Gaza, considering the criminal actions of the Zionist regime the cause of instability in the region.
The top Iranian diplomat with a high-level delegation arrived at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York where he was received and welcomed by Amir Saeed Iravani, Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, and Zahra Ershadi, Deputy Representative of Iran at the UN.
Other than attending the UN Security Council meeting for the first time on Tuesday, Amir-Abdollahian is scheduled to hold meetings with his counterparts and UN officials.
Before his departure for New York, Iran’s foreign minister wrote a letter addressing to the UN Secretary-General over the latest Israeli assassination of five Iranian military advisors in Damascus who were present in that country at the official invitation of the Syrian government.
In December, the United Nations General Assembly approved a resolution with an overwhelming 153 votes which called for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza.
Despite international pressure, the UN Security Council, with five permanent members and 10 non-permanent members, has not been able to stop the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip or establish a ceasefire there as the US has vetoed several such resolutions in favor of Israel. Washington and its Western allies also keep backing Israel with money and weapons and turn a blind eye to the bloodshed of Palestinians in Gaza.
