Iranian President Seyed Ebrahim Rayeesi in a message to Shehbaz Sharif congratulated him on appointment as Pakistan’s new prime minister, stressing Tehran’s readiness to boost cooperation with Islamabad in all fields.
In his congratulatory message on Thursday, President Rayeesi expressed the hope that the path ahead would lead to further cooperation between the two countries to reach a desirable level.
The Islamic Republic of Iran is always ready to improve all-inclusive cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, including in the new term, he added.
Pakistan’s parliament selected Shehbaz Sharif as the country’s new prime minister, after Imran Khan was ousted in a no-confidence vote in the early hours of Sunday.
The opposition coalition leader – who had worked to depose Khan – won the support of a majority in parliament.
Shehbaz Sharif will now form a new government that can remain in place until elections are due in August 2023.
