Iraqi Resistance Vows to Target US Interests Should Israel Attack Lebanon
The Iraqi Resistance Coordination Committee (IRCC) underlined its intention to target US interests in Iraq and West Asia should Israel launch a military attack on Lebanon.
The IRCC, representing a coalition of anti-terror groups, announced that the scope of Iraqi operations would expand significantly if Israel undertakes a wide-scale assault on Lebanon.
“Should Israel commit such a military assault, US interests in Iraq and elsewhere in the region will become legitimate targets for resistance forces,” the statement read.
The committee also called for decisive actions against Arab countries that compromise with Israel in light of ongoing Israeli violence in Palestine.
“In the wake of ongoing massacres in Palestine, decisive positions should be taken against the Arab countries that compromise with the Zionist regime,” it stated.
Criticism was directed at the Basra-Aqaba pipeline project, which would span almost 2,000 kilometers from Basra to the Jordanian port of Aqaba, transporting one million barrels per day. “The pipeline would be the starting point for involving Iraq in a scheme that paves the way for normalization of relations with the occupying Zionist entity,” it said.
Last week, Qais al-Khazali, secretary-general of Iraq’s Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq resistance group, warned Israel against initiating a new war on Lebanon, stating that US strategic interests in West Asia would be targeted in such an event.
“If America continues to support the usurping Israeli regime, and the Zionist enemy expands its assaults on Lebanon and Hezbollah, Washington’s interests in the region and Iraq will be in jeopardy,” al-Khazali said.
He also questioned the benefits of US support for Israel, criticizing the Israeli regime and its right-wing administration led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Since early October, Hezbollah and Israel have been exchanging deadly fire, following Israel’s genocidal operation against Gaza after a surprise operation by Palestinian resistance groups.
Hezbollah has vowed to continue its retaliatory attacks as long as Israel’s Gaza war persists, which has resulted in the deaths of at least 37,765 Palestinians and injuries to 86,429 others.
Hezbollah officials have stated they do not seek war with Israel but are prepared if it occurs.
